The NC General Assembly begins its 2019 session in earnest on January 29, halfway through Governor Roy Cooper’s (first) term, amid an unsettled landscape of state and federal governance. Meanwhile, the environmental challenges we face seem larger than ever: ongoing climate change, more extreme and frequent storms, discoveries of emerging contaminants, and impacts of uneven growth across the state. Grady McCallie is Policy Director at the NC Conservation Network, one of a number of statewide environmental organizations that advocate at the NC General Assembly and with various agencies and commissions. Come hear how one advocate thinks about the big picture environmental challenges facing North Carolina and those challenges relate to concrete issues likely to show up in the NC General Assembly and state rulemaking processes in 2019.
